Businesses in ruins after early morning fire in the Tweed

Two businesses have been destroyed and another damaged after a fire broke out early this morning

TWO businesses have been destroyed and another damaged after a fire broke out in the Tweed Valley early this morning.

Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Murwillumbah were called to a building fire at Coolman St, Tyalgum about 4.20am.

Tyalgum Rural Fire Brigade was already on scene fighting a blaze tearing through Orpheum Bookshop and Osiris Jewellery.

Nobody was reported to be injured in the fires at the businesses.

A third business, Paddington of Tyalgum, was damaged in the fire, but was saved

Also involved in the emergency response was Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade, Chillingham Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW Tweed Heads hazmat unit.

NSW Ambulance and Essential Energy were also on scene.

Fire and Rescue NSW Murwillumbah gave a “big shout out” to Tyalgum General Store for providing emergency responders with food and drinks.

The damaged buildings have been fenced off and asbestos management will be undertaken.
