THE Burleigh Heads Surf Club has lifted the lid for the first time on its spectacular $4.4m facelift.
The development includes a new restaurant, extension to its beach kiosk and storage facilities that will house 100 surf skis and paddle boards.
Club president Michael Boyce said the renovations were first put to the Gold Coast City Council in 2018 and got approved in November 2020.
Nine months on and the surf club’s dining area, which includes bar and balcony seating for more than 220 people, is open to the public seven days a week.
“We are right on the beach and we have taken full advantage of that panoramic of the restaurant,” Mr Boyce said.
“We are looking for a great weekend with a bumper crowd to make up for what we lost during the construction phase.”
Mr Boyce said the club had to keep up with the growth of Burleigh, where the surf club’s Nippers program has more than 450 participants.
“We are getting so many more young families moving to Burleigh,” he said. “We are catering to those families and our Nipper program continues to grow.”
The redevelopment also includes a lap pool looking over Burleigh Beach, which Ironman great and the club’s strength and condition coach Wes Berg said was great for everyone from the Nippers to elite athletes.
“For the community it is amazing,” he said. “The facilities that have been put in place are great for kids travelling from Brisbane and locals.
“The disable access the club has to the beach and now the pool is like none other.
“The restaurant downstairs helps fund facilities that provide opportunities for everyone.”
