Burleigh Heads man charged after alleged outburst opposite Mondrian Hotel
Dramatic video has shown the moment a 50-year-old man was confronted by cops, who drew a Taser on him before he ran between traffic outside a luxury Burleigh hotel. WATCH THE VIDEO
A 50-year-old Burleigh Heads man has been charged following an alleged disturbance outside a luxury Gold Coast hotel.
Police were called to The Esplanade near the Mondrian at around 7.30am on Sunday to reports of a disturbance.
In footage obtained by this masthead and filmed by a hotel guest, the 50-year-old barefoot man can be seen acting aggressively towards two female police officers.
“Stop bossing me around,” the man can be heard yelling at the officers before running in the middle of the road into traffic.
At one point the man can be seen charging at one of the officers, who had her hands up in a defensive position, as the other officer retrieves a taser.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the man allegedly ran from police, and officers gave chase.
“The man allegedly verbally abused and acted aggressively towards officers, and a taser was deployed,” the spokesperson said.
“He was arrested and transported to Southport Watchhouse.”
The man was charged with one count each of commit public nuisance and obstruct police officer and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on October 27.
The incident comes as new CCTV cameras are set to be installed in the area amid the rise of crime-related incidents and increasing anti-social behaviour.
