SIX months into its demolition derby, Pacific Fair is starting to reveal its new face, with elements of a new facade being installed this week.
The centre is still two years out from completing its metamorphosis from frumpy ’80s dag to red-hot shopping superstar — but the $670 million makeover is on schedule.
General manager Annabelle Green said the new ground floor and level in the northeast section of the 37-year-old centre was finally taking shape.
WALLS COME TUMBLING DOWN AT PACIFIC FAIR
“New travelators from the ground floor to level two will be installed over coming weeks and the relocation and opening of Target is scheduled for later this year,” she said.
“The old facade trim elements have been successfully removed with some new elements already being installed along the northeast corner.
“The western corner was demolished in February and construction of the new basement under the new supermarkets and the ground floor of the new Coles is taking shape.”
Demolition will recommence later in the year, extending further east as the redevelopment progresses.
The development will include a new Woolworths, a relocated Coles supermarket, David Jones, Big W, a new and relocated Target, around 100 new specialty stores and 1300 additional parking spaces.
The centre will comprise a new two-level mall connecting to existing sections, adding 50,000sq m of retail space.
On completion, Pacific Fair will be about 150,00sq m and have more than 420 shops, restaurants and entertainment destinations under one roof.
The development is expected to be completed in 2016 — two years before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
