Gold Coast weather: Cooler mornings predicted for southeast Qld over ANZAC weekend

Meteorologists are warning a "burst of cooler morning temperatures" is likely for the Gold Coast over the ANZAC Day long weekend. FULL FORECAST

THE cold snap that brought lower than average minimum temperatures to the Gold Coast on Friday morning is set to continue over the ANZAC Day long weekend says the Bureau of Meteorology.

On Friday morning it was 12.1C on the Seaway, the coolest minimum temperature since 2012, and at Coolangatta it was 7.8C, the coolest it’s been in April since 2015.

Further inland it was 3.8C at Canungra and 4 at Beaudesert.

Meteorologist Rosa Hoff said it was common to see a burst of cooler temperatures this time of year , and that the “cold snap” would continue through the long weekend.

“More cool mornings are expected, particularly for people inland, from Saturday and into the start of the week. But it’s expected the minimum temperature will pick up to mid-teens by next week,” she said.

“It’s likely to be 4-5C below the minimum average temperature, and the cold snap will be felt when waking in the morning.”

She said the average daytime temperature was expected to be 1-2C higher than average, with the Gold Coast likely to experience 23-25C and sunny skies across the weekend.

Clear skies are predicted for ANZAC Day, but locals should expect cooler than average temperatures in the morning.

Ms Hoff said the sun would likely to stick around for the public holiday Monday but there were the chance of showers “creeping” back from Monday later in the day.

APRIL 2.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts a maximum of 26 with a potential shower or two for Friday on the Gold Coast.

While the forecast doesn't change much on Saturday maintaining a 60 per cent chance of rain, Sunday isn’t looking as promising.

The forecast is for a 90 per cent chance of rain on Easter Sunday which will develop into heavier rainfall on Monday (60 to 100mm).

There is a chance of possible showers for the rest of next week.

BOM meteorologist Matt Marshall said on Thursday: “Fresh to strong south-easterlies will dominate east coast weather for the long weekend.

“(There will be) rapid deterioration of conditions in the southeast from Sunday to Tuesday.

“There is a risk of heavy rainfall, damaging winds and damaging surf for the Capricornia, Wide Bay and southeast Coast.”
