Community activist Prabha Agraja said Mr Dandamudi was in his second year at Griffith University and leaves behind grieving parents and a sister – shattered by the loss.

“I spoke to the family last night,” he said

“I could hear the tears and cries in the background – I spoke to the cousin who was the one who could handle the call.”

Mr Agraja said the family were not only mourning their loss, but also facing financial challenges in transporting Mr Dandamudi’s body back to India.

The activist and family’s spokesman said Mr Dandamudi’s student insurance did not cover repatriation and has organised a GoFundMe on their behalf.
