Boat capsizes, pair cling to side of vessel until water police come

Two people have been rescued from a capsized vessel in Gold Coast waters this evening after they were found clinging to the side of their boat. SEE THE FOOTAGE

Gold Coast Water Police rescue a man and women from an overturned boat at Jumpinpin

DRAMATIC footage has been released of the moment two people were rescued after they were stranded in the middle of the ocean for up to three hours.

A 43-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man from the Logan district were inside a small a small boat which capsized at the Gold Coast Seaway about 4pm last night.

They were found clinging to the side of the boat after it overturned at the Jumpinpin Pocket.

An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon was activated, with Polair 2 responding.

Gold Coast water police acting senior sergeant Mitch Gray said the ending of the pair’s finishing trip may have been different if they did not have a beacon.

The man had to dive to retreat it.

“They were both shaken and hypothermia had started to set in,” Act Snr Sgt Gray said.

Gold Coast Water Police rescued the passengers.

The pair was taken to Runaway Bay Marina before being transported to Gold Coast University Hospital.
