FIREFIGHTERS have labelled a house fire which destroyed an abandoned Gold Coast home suspicious.
Emergency services were called to the Helena and Parr Street intersection at Biggera Waters to a house “well alight.”
The home had been vacant for several weeks and no one was inside at the time of the blaze, which was spotted by neighbours when smoke began filling the street.
Southport Fire Station’s Station Officer Marcus Barrett said the house was “fairly well damaged” however neighbouring homes were untouched.
“No electricity was connected to the home, so we are treating it as suspicious,” he said.
“Police will be taking it over once we’re finished and locking it up for the night, we’ll probably have our investigators looking at it in the morning.”
Firefighters were also doorknocking surrounding homes to alert neighbours of the smoke hazard.
Investigations will continue tomorrow.
