Ms Afu is a contract massage therapist for the Gold Coast Titans and also runs her own business Jade Afu Sports Remedial Therapist.
The allied health advocate said she was “shocked” to win but was thankful for the new title.
“I didn’t think I was going to be in for chance,” Ms Afu said.
“I felt very grateful that people considered me and I do feel like I’ve worked very hard the last few years and it feels nice to be recognised.”
Ms Afu credited her win to providing a high standard of customer service and putting her clients’ health first.
“My approach has never been about business, it’s always been about putting my clients first,” Ms Afu said.
“I’m very passionate about my job, so for me it’s not about how many people I see in a day or how much money I’m making.
“I am remedial based which means the main goal is to decrease pain and improve movement, but at the same time … treating the body as a whole by also looking at the person’s lifestyle.
“You have to really love what you’re doing and if you do, then clients will come naturally.”
