Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie will be honoured with a major nod when the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards hit the Gold Coast next month.

The Barbie superstar has been announced as this year’s recipient of the Trailblazer Award, which recognises Australians whose work and achievements in the film industry have served as inspiration to others.

The proud Gold Coaster adds her name to the list of Aussie Hollywood heavyweights who have previously received the award, including Chris Hemsworth and Rose Byrne.

Best-known for her starring roles, Robbie has also been a driving force behind hugely successful films – including Barbie, Saltburn, and I, Tonya – through her production company LuckyChap.

Robbie said she was “truly honoured” to accept the award in her hometown, with the ceremony to take place at HOTA on February 10.

“Australia has always been my grounding force, and to receive this recognition here is incredibly special,” she said.

“I believe in the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on shaping culture and inspiring others.

“This award is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of everyone involved in the film community, and I am thrilled to be part of it.”

The honour comes amid controversy following both Robbie and Barbie director Greta Gerwig missing out on Oscar nominations in their respective categories for the global sensation, which was the highest-grossing film of the year with more than $1.4 billion worldwide.

While Robbie is yet to score a gong for her leading role, Barbie has remained an awards season favourite despite trailing behind rival blockbuster Oppenheimer.

Robbie, 33, was spotted on the Gold Coast as recently as last November.

The actress was dressed casually compared to her usual glamorous looks – though not without a Chanel bucket hat reportedly worth $2600 – when she stopped by popular Italian eatery Domanis Cafe Restaurant Bar, enjoying a drink and snapping pictures with owner John Kaz.

“Barbie-mania” is expected to continue throughout this year’s four-day AACTA Festival, including a free screening of the smash hit at HOTA on February 9.
