A Gold Coast hospitality boss who is throwing one of the city’s biggest Australia Day parties is standing by his calls to continue celebrating the day.

Artesian Hospitality managing partner Matt Keegan last month criticised rival Australian Venue Co after it banned Australia Day celebrations at its more than 200 venues across the country, including The Cavill Hotel, Finn McCool’s, Sandbar and Retros Nightclub on the Gold Coast.

Mr Keegan has now announced details of Australia Day parties at his Cali Beach Club and Surfers Pavilion venues.

“For me, Australia Day is about everyone coming together,” he said.

“There is no better way to do that than with great music and celebrating our unique culture in the best way possible … outdoors, under the sun and with an epic line-up.”

Mr Keegan said Australian DJs The Stafford Brothers will perform at the jam-packed Cali Beach Club party.

The party will also feature pool games, a huge champagne spray, a napkin toss, a giant life-size beer pong game and will stream the Australian Open final live on the big screen.

Mr Keegan said the venue had been granted a sound limits exemption for the day.

“It’s definitely a welcome relief, allowing us to deliver the kind of high-energy entertainment that people expect at world class venues like Cali Beach,” he said.

Mr Keegan said he was campaigning to abolish the sound permit which plagues Cali Beach Club.

“It highlights the ongoing challenges venues face in Queensland due to unnecessarily broad and strict noise restrictions,” he said.

“We have incredible relationships with top-tier artists, but strict sound limits can sometimes make it difficult to consistently book the calibre of talent we’d love to showcase.”

Mr Keegan said The Stafford Brothers were the “perfect fit” for Australia Day.

“They embody the Aussie festival spirit and are an icon of Australia worldwide.”
