MORE than 1600 people are jockeying to secure a unit inside a newly approved tower overlooking one of the world’s most famous surf breaks.

The Gold Coast City Council has approved Marquee Development Partners’ 11-storey SOL Kirra Beach tower and its 48 units are set to go on sale on June 26.

But an immediate sellout is tipped after the developer was inundated with inquiries.

The tower, which its architect says was inspired by Palm Springs and the Gold Coast of the 1960s, will be built on Kirra headland just a handful of metres away from the under-construction $380 million redevelopment of the Kirra Beach Hotel.

It will feature a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom units, as well as a series of penthouses. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
