The light and airy complex includes a new arts centre, chapel, administration building, library and science building for the secondary school, which has a population of just over 1000 students.
Construction of stage one of the plan – which includes the administration building – is set to begin at the end of this year.
GOLD COAST’S SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE
Stage one is expected to be completed in 2020 at a total cost of $5.5-6 million.
Aquinas College Principal Peter Hurley said the designs have been in the works for more than three years.
“These are the first images of where we are headed, the rest of the school has been renovated and now we are trying to improve the working environment for teachers and the community,” he said.
“PnF (Parents and friends), council, community and staff have all be involved in the development of this design.”
BEST GOLD COAST PRINCIPAL REVEALED
Mr Hurley said the focus was on turning Aquinas into a pre-tertiary facility, as opposed to post primary.
“The concept was about looking forward at the future of education and creating a space for that conceptual change,” Mr Hurley said.
“We are really looking forward to the development, everyone is excited about the designs.”
