One of the most remarkable cakes on our list was made by Denise Leonard for her grandson Braxton.

The cake was topped by a giant chocolate dinosaur egg, which six-year-old Braxton had to break open to reveal more treats inside.

It was a remarkable highlight to Braxton’s sixth birthday party.

Ms Leonard’s daughter Sarah said her mother makes amazing cakes for every occasion - and it’s only a hobby.

“She has made a Peppa Pig and a Dora cake before, anything the kids are interested in she makes,” Ms Leonard said.

Ms Leonard said her mother used a balloon to set a layer of chocolate and waited for it to dry before popping the balloon.

The egg shape was then decorated and sat on top of a cake covering a toy dinosaur which now lives in Braxton’s room.

“The first one she made the chocolate wasn’t set properly and she popped the balloon too early, it exploded all over her,” Ms Leonard said.

The final product delighted all birthday guests, and most importantly Braxton who described the cake as “so cool.”

Ms Leonard said her mother “always goes the extra mile for her grandbabies” though reveals the hobby came a little too late for her to enjoy as a child.

“I never got a cool cake like that,” she said.
