Almost a dozen freed from elevator at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise

Emergency services have rescued almost a dozen people trapped in an elevator at a popular Gold Coast hotel.

ALMOST a dozen people have been rescued by emergency services after becoming trapped in an elevator at a popular Gold Coast hotel.

The group of 11 became stuck in the Crowne Plaza lift shortly before 8.30pm, with lift mechanics on scene unable to open the doors.

Firefighters forced the doors open a short way to get water to the group before using airbags to force them open entirely.

They were all released at 9.48pm after more than an hour stuck in the lift.

An ambulance crew was on standby but no one required assistance.
