A GOLD Coast bricklayer accused of threatening to “mow down” the Queensland Premier and Chief Health Officer has fronted court for the first time.
Aaron Marriage, 43, was last month charged after detectives executed a search warrant at his Nerang property as part of an investigation into alleged threats made against Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young.
Marriage was self-represented when he briefly appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court today on a charge of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill on Wednesday.
The Gold Coast Bulletin understands the man allegedly posted on the Queensland Premier’s Facebook page on September 14 that he would “mow down” police, Ms Palaszczuk, Dr Young and her police guard because he had been unable to cross the border to see his child in NSW.
The man, who claims on social media that he served in the Army, approached reporters in the public gallery prior to his appearance and questioned why one journalist had mentioned his name in a story.
He claimed his identity was protected under the Privacy Act.
In the bizarre exchange, he questioned the interest in the case and claimed reporters were unable to print his name.
“At the end of the day I haven’t seen my kids in a year. That’s the whole reason we’re here,” he said to the court during his appearance.
It is understood his children live in NSW.
Marriage applied for an adjournment, telling the court a few things had been “changed from what was actually written”.
He said he took issue with “who the victim is”.
Marriage sprinted from the media outside of court.
On social media, he says he is “just an ex defence wolf trying to make work in a civilian life”.
It is understood Marriage did previously serve in the Army.
His matter was adjourned to November 4.
