A man has been charged after allegedly driving up to 159km/h while under the influence on the M1.
Gold Coast police arrested and charged a 47-year-old man after pulling him over on the Pacific Motorway in Pimpama on Saturday around 2am.
A police statement said officers intercepted a Nissan Maxima while it was allegedly driving 159km/h in a 110km/h zone.
Police conducted a roadside breath test and the man returned a blood-alcohol content of 0.229 per cent.
The man was also fined $1,854 for driving over the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
“Motorists are reminded that there are no excuses with it comes to road safety and officers will be out and about making sure that the road rules are abided by,” a police statement said.
The man was charged with driving a motor vehicle without a licence and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on August 8.
