A man has been charged after two police officers and a Gold Coast homeowner were attacked during an alleged food delivery robbery in broad daylight.

Gold Coast police were called after an altercation which occurred at Meron St in Southport around 12.50pm on Friday.

Superintendent Brett Jackson said it was understood a resident had ordered food to their home.

However, a 34-year-old man from Benowa allegedly approached the homeowner and tried to “steal the food delivery”, police claim.

Supt Jackson said an alleged altercation between the resident and the 34-year-old occurred before the alleged offender fled the scene with the homeowner’s phone and food.

Police then began patrolling nearby streets before they found the alleged offender hiding inside his car at a street in Southport.

When officers approached the car it was understood the man ran from the vehicle before allegedly assaulting police.

During the police chase, two police officers were injured after the alleged offender “resisted violently”.

The two officers were taken to Pindara Hospital with grazes and bruising.

The 34-year-old Benowa man was arrested on scene and police conducted a search of his address and claim to have found clothing and some items from the robbery.

He was charged with robbery offences and a number of other offences including assaulting police.

The 34-year-old appeared before Southport Magistrates Court and his case was adjourned until April 28.

“This day and age we do get a lot of deliveries to our door whether they be parcels, food products and so forth,” Supt Jackson said.

“There is an inherent risk.

“All I suggest is that if your are going to choose to order something to deliver to your address that you make sure you have security systems in place, like CCTV.

“In this instance there is nothing to say that the homeowner did anything wrong at all.”
