RAIN pounded the Coast yesterday but showers are now predicted to ease.
The city received more than 90mm overnight and chilled through below average temperatures.
But the weather bureau predicts showers would not be as “intense today and move offshore”.
Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecaster Shane Kennedy said only about 5mm of rain was expected today.
“There is a slight chance of showers over the next couple of days but only small totals predicted,” he said.
“Yesterday the upper trough in the west was helping intensify showers and help them keep going all day.
“Temperatures are also a little cooler and the below average 28C for this time of year. Below average temperatures will continue”
The highest rainfall totals were at Biggera Creek Dam (87mm), Loaders Creek (81mm), South Stradbroke (79mm), Burleigh Waters (74mm), Coomera Shores (71mm).
A strong weather warning is in place for Gold Coast waterways today with more than 20 knot winds expected.
“From tomorrow the stronger winds should push north to Fraser Island. From Wednesday to Friday it will be calmer out there,” Mr Kennedy said
Last night’s low was 21.4C, according to the bureau’s station at the northern end of The Spit.
Today it will be high of 26C in Surfers Paradise, Coolangatta and Coomera, and 25C in Nerang and Robina.
Heading into the end of the week temperatures are expected to dip to a low of about 20C.
