SUN, surf, sand and The Suns will be on show tomorrow at Palm Beach, as the AFL minnows prepare to launch their season.

Pirate Park will play host to the Gold Coast Suns AFL and AFLW squads training sessions, with the public invited to come and watch the teams go round.

The open training sessions have been running at different locations along the Coast, since the teams’ first season in 2011.

This year session fans can hang out with the players, grab autographs, enjoy free yoga, coffee and a floating inflatable, as well as test their skills in a game of beach footy and cricket.

After the men’s side finished rock bottom of the AFL ladder in 2019, Suns AFLW player Lauren Ahrens said the training session couldn’t come at a better time, as the two teams trial this Saturday at Southport Sharks.

“It’s really exciting that we get to come together and actually play now. We have been training really hard and practising the style we want to play, now we get to actually do it and that’s the most exciting part,” Ahrens said.

Gold Coast Suns General Manager Consumer and Community Jane McGough said it was a good opportunity for the team to engage with the fans.

“It’s a great for the team to get out and engage with the fans … and doing what Gold Coasters love down at the beach,”

“There’s activities for the whole family to enjoy.”

Gold Coast SUNS mascot Sunny Ray and new AFLW mascot Skye will join the session too.

Head to Pirate Park in Palm Beach tomorrow for all the action. Yoga starts at 6:30am and join the open beach training session and community morning from 8am to 10am.
