Real beer v craft beer taste test

THE BRAINS behind some of the Gold Coast’s best bars and restaurants is onto his next “childhood dream” venture - opening a brewery.

Hospitality identity Scott Imlach - who owns Hideaway Bar & Kitchen, Bine Bar & Dining, Mr Hizola’s, Nightjar and Nightcap - has revealed to ATG he will be opening a 680 sqm restaurant-brewery in Miami in about three months.

“We’ve been planning with council for the past 18 to 20 months to get it approved,” Imlach says.

WHY SCOTT IMLACH WANTS MORE BARS TO OPEN ON THE GOLD COAST

“There will be a restaurant and a kids playground. But it will be a full working brewery. All of the beers will be made on site before your eyes.”

The brewery’s location will be streets away from popular Black Hops Brewery and Grandad Jacks Craft Distillery.

Asked if he was concerned business would be competitive within the area, he said “not at all”.

“We wanted a place which was close enough for residents. We didn’t want a big industrial thing in the middle of nowhere,” he said.

“Once we get up and going, you should see more (breweries) there. It’ll be a little tourist attraction.

BLACK HOPS: HOW THREE MATES STATED ONE OF THE COAST’S BEST BREWERIES

“I’ve been very honest and open about what I want to do. I called (the other breweries) first. We are not going down to try and compete against them. We are working together.

“There will probably be little tours you can do between us three. It’s all about boosting the economy’s craft beer industry.”

Black Hops co-owner Dan Norris said he was “looking forward” to the new brewery.

“We’ve been to a few places in the world which have lots of little breweries together and they do tours. It works really,” Norris says

“It would be really cool to have something like that here on the Gold Coast.”

Glitter Strip bar House of Brews is hosting a “Battle of the Brews” on March 11.

Black Hops Brewery will serve three beers alongside Western Australia’s Blasta Brewing Co to determine who brews the best hops.
