Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A fly-through

ELECTRIC buses will travel to the Gold Coast’s western suburbs under a plan to be unveiled today.

Rather than replace existing bus services, the bus rapid transit (BRT) system would complement the light rail services and lay the groundwork for the future route of the trams.

While the final routes and stops have yet to be finalised, here’s where they are expected to go.

BROADBEACH TO NERANG

This link would begin at Broadbeach South light rail station and travel west to Nerang town centre.

Travelling west along Nerang-Broadbeach Road, it would stop at several major locations including Pacific Fair, Cararra Markets and Metricon Stadium.

NOBBY BEACH TO ROBINA

The longest route, it will ultimately run from Nobby Beach to the under-construction Greet Heart Parklands at Robina.

The route is proposed to begin on the Gold Coast Highway and turn west along Pacific Ave, stopping at Pizzey Park, Bond University, Varsity College, Robina Town Centre, Robina Railway Station, Robina Hospital and Cbus Super Stadium.

PARKLANDS TO HARBOUR TOWN.

THIS prospective route is only in the earliest stages of planning.

But initial plans show it to be the shortest, cheapest and easiest of the three to deliver.

It would begin at the Gold Coast University Hospital and run to Harbour Town Shopping Centre, running along Olsen Ave with a stop at Southport Sharks.
