‘Well alight’: Cause of Ocean Grove house blaze unknown

The cause of a house fire that had the property “well alight” on Wednesday night remains unknown.

An Ocean Grove home has sustained damage to its roof after a blaze on Wednesday night.

A man who lives alone with two dogs was unharmed in an Ocean Grove house fire.

Firefighters were called to the Bonnyvale Rd property about 8pm on Wednesday night.

It’s understood multiple onlookers called triple-0 to report the fire.

Fire damage could be seen to the roof at the front of the house.

A neighbour said he didn’t hear any commotion and that the sole occupant lived alone with two dogs.

The neighbour said the man had lived in the residence for a long time, with the pair speaking on occasion over the past 20 years.

A resident of a neighbouring street told the Geelong Advertiser she heard sirens at about 8pm.

The Bonnyvale home sustained damage to its roof after a blaze on Wednesday night, seen from the street.

She said emergency services had closed off the top part of the street, which is on a hill, to traffic while they were bringing the blaze under control.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said the crews were supported by CFA firefighters.

“Crews arrived on scene … to find a house well alight and worked to make the scene safe,” the spokeswoman said.

“Crews attacked the flames and brought the scene under control in six minutes.

“Both Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene to assist.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics’ services were not required.

The spokeswoman said the cause of the fire was still known by 8am on Thursday.

Victoria Police said the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
