A major three-car crash on the Surf Coast Highway has left one person in hospital and commuters facing lengthy delays.
Emergency services attended the scene at the corner of Blackgate Rd and the highway about 4.35pm.
According to a witness, a black ute and a grey ute collided, both vehicles coming to rest wedged against a power pole. A white ute has also been caught up in the crash and badly damaged.
The witness claimed it appeared the black ute was travelling along the Surf Coast Highway and the grey vehicle had pulled out of Blackgate Rd.
Everyone involved escaped serious injury.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed one person had been transported to Geelong hospital in a stable condition for observation.
One local said the crossing was a “dicey” intersection where some drivers risked crossing or entering the 100km/h stretch even when gaps in the traffic were quite narrow.
It was wet and dark on Wednesday afternoon after wintry conditions across the region.
The crash caused traffic chaos for commuters, with all southbound lanes on the highway shut.
VicTraffic recommended motorists consider using Anglesea Rd instead.
