Thief wearing ugg boots and helmet steals monstera from Plant Addicts Anonymous in Geelong West

Bizarre footage shows a thief, wearing a helmet and ugg boots, rip a plant from its pot out the front of a Geelong nursery, leaving a trail of soil. WATCH THE VIDEO.

A thief wearing a helmet and ugg boots ripped a plant from a pot at the front a Geelong West nursery in bizarre scenes captured on camera.

The footage, released by Geelong police, shows the offender walk past Plant Addicts Anonymous on Pakington St just after 4am Friday.

The thief spotted the monstera and, having taken a liking of the large plant, walked back to the shop front to pinch it.

They first attempted to rip it straight out of the terracotta pot, which is bolted to the front of the building.

When that didn’t work, they tried to break it away from a wooden stake in the pot, again with no success.

Unfortunately for business owner Adam Maccora, the nocturnal green thumb proved third time’s a charm.

In a highly unusual move, they turned their back to the plant, shimmied into place as to get a firm grip on the stem, and then yanked it out of the pot.

They then walked away from the store with their illegally obtained plant.

When Mr Maccora went to open his store on Friday morning he found a trail of soil leading away from the front door.

“We planted (the monstera) when we first opened three years ago and it’s been growing so nicely and getting really big,” he said.

“It was like a statement piece for us and would also draw customers into the store.”

Mr Maccora said the brazen robbery was really frustrating, but he hoped to plant another one in the pot soon.

It is understood other stores along the boutique shopping strip have also had plants stolen in recent weeks.

Footage shows the thief wearing a black helmet, black jacket, beige pants and ugg boots.
