Popular pet-friendly holiday spot Bells By the Beach closes its doors

A popular destination for Bellarine holiday-makers and their furry friends will close its doors.

A popular destination for Bellarine holiday-makers and their furry friends will close.

Jan and Lin Bell have been operating Bells by the Beach dog friendly holiday rental since 2003 and will close the business at the end of February.

The popular Ocean Grove location has hosted more than 600 families and their four-legged friends through the years.

Mrs Bell said the couple intended to move to Queensland and retire in coming months.

“We’re really sad to be closing it, for ourselves and the families we’ve hosted over the years with their fur-kids,” she said.

“Apparently there’s not a lot of dog-friendly accommodation in Ocean Grove, and we’ve always tried to go above and beyond.”

The property itself has been sold to private buyers.

Ms Bell said the small business had been a source of joy and pride for the pair.

“I’ve enjoyed the contact with the guests, and getting to know them,” she said.

“I also get a kick out of meeting all of the dogs when they arrive.”

Mrs Bell said the business started after she quit a casual job in Melbourne.

“We started a brand-new business from scratch, and running it has been such an achievement for both of us,” she said.

“We are so grateful for everyone’s support and loyalty. We’re glad everyone enjoyed their holidays and have never had a bad review in 17 years.”
