Almost 40 electricians from across the Geelong region are in the running to be named the best in the business.

Boden Carkeek, director of Quality Care Electrical, is one of those nominees.

He has been an electrician for more than 15 years and running his own business for more than half of that time.

“We try to prioritise, as most people would, a solid and happy environment for our staff and customers so it’s always nice to get recognition,” he said.

“The biggest part of the business I enjoy is seeing the growth of my employees.

“We do try and upskill and have strong culture.”

Mr Carkeek said he cooked breakfast for his seven full time employees, and handful of subcontractors every Monday morning.

“It’s a good way to start the week and get organised, so we just try to have a fun, happy place to work,” he said.

Mr Carkeek said there were a lot of technical aspects to know in the industry and electricians were always learning.

“Even 16 years into the industry I still learn something most days so it’s nice to see a lot of personal growth in your skills and knowledge,” he said.

“There is naturally upskilling you can get in different areas and we are typically involved with a lot of new technology.

“Whether it’s electric vehicles, industrial work with automation or robot arms, we are exposed to things like that from time to time which can be super interesting.

“It’s probably no secret but there’s a lot of job satisfaction that comes from domestic work, too.

“You tend to get to finish a job on the same day so that can be satisfying and typically people are pretty happy and grateful, so that’s a nice feeling to get at the end of the day.”

Readers can vote in the poll below to choose Geelong’s best electrician.

Electricians are listed in alphabetical order by business name.

Voting closes at 9am on July 15.

We have relaunched the Best of Geelong series to help our readers discover the incredible businesses and individuals in our community. The way it works is in three stages:

1. We put out an initial call for nominations over a two-day period. This happens on our various social media accounts as well as on our website.

2. After nominations close we open the voting stage on our website. The businesses or individuals that received the highest number of nominations will progress to the voting stage. The voting stage runs for one week.

3. Once voting has closed a winner will be announced on our website usually a few days after the voting stage concludes. At the same time we will also announce up to nine other businesses with the highest amount of votes in the poll.

*The Geelong Advertiser reserves the right to disqualify any entries to the Best Of competition.
