Don't miss out on the headlines from Geelong. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Are you a potato cake guy? A dim sim girl? Perhaps you go the whole nine yards and treat yourself to a chicken burger.
Whatever your proclivity, we know most are susceptible to a classic helping of servo food.
What’s more, many people know their favourite.
That’s why the Geelong Advertiser is setting off in search of the region’s best.
One organisation that believes they are the best is APCO, a chain with roots in the region.
Food service category manager Beverley Eastgate said APCO identified the importance of good quality food a “long time ago”.
“Our point of difference within the petrol and convenience channel is our food service offer and the extensive breadth available, supported by the consistent focus in the last two decades in people and processes, ensuring that the end product is representative of the pride we hold for our food,” Ms Eastgate said.
While Ms Eastgate conceded her favourite food was the jaffle, the dim sims and potato cakes were unsurprisingly the company’s most popular offerings.
“(We’ve) seen significant growth in the last 12 months in sushi and cold cafe beverages, with a new range introduced across the network supporting this trend,” she said.
“While the traditional servo food of fried items and burgers will always be available, the menu has evolved to include and extensive range of cold grab and go items and more recently, a wider range of hot meal options inclusive of hot roasts and pizzas.”
We have relaunched the Best of Geelong series to help our readers discover the incredible businesses and individuals in our community. The way it works is in three stages:
1. We put out an initial call for nominations over a two-day period. This happens on our various social media accounts as well as on our website.
2. After nominations close we open the voting stage on our website. The businesses or individuals that received the highest number of nominations will progress to the voting stage. The voting stage runs for one week.
3. Once voting has closed a winner will be announced on our website usually a few days after the voting stage concludes. At the same time we will also announce up to nine other businesses with the highest amount of votes in the poll.
*The Geelong Advertiser reserves the right to disqualify any entries to the Best Of competition.
