A popular Geelong cafe has been forced to shut its doors, leaving the owners “broken” as liquidators move to wind up its financial affairs.

Surf Coast highway based venue Uforic Food Cafe, opened by Armstrong Creek couple Matt and Lisa Mary Cummins in 2013, took to social media on Tuesday afternoon to announce its closure.

“We tried our hardest for almost a decade to create a beautiful place to nourish the body and soul,” Ms Cummins wrote to the cafe’s thousands of followers.

“But enduring the pandemic and following economic ramifications, coupled with my serious and continuing health issues, we are broken. I’m devastated we have no choice but to close Uforic. I never imagined this is how the journey would end.”

“We have struggled financially, like almost every business, over the last three years.

“I kept trying to change the business and adopt strategies to see us through these dark days. Days where people are sick and isolating – or socialising less to keep their health safe. I believed the coming spring and summer seasons would be the catalyst for getting a lot of things sorted and back on track.”

Ms Cummins noted Revive Financial had been appointed to carry out the liquidation process.

The emotional business owner also revealed her distress at the closure of the popular cafe.

“The cafe was my everything – I am lost without it,” Ms Collins wrote. “I know I am blessed to have had the chance to do something I loved so much. Not many people get to say that and the privilege this has been is not lost on me.”

“I can’t express enough gratitude to all the people that made Uforic possible for nearly a decade. The teams, the suppliers, friends and our families. I have shared so much with all of our amazing customers.

“I hope at the end of the day – when all is said and done – that Uforic brought more happiness, peace and opportunity to people who needed it, then it did harm.”
