Two people have been injured after falling through a drain at Belmont.

Emergency services were called to High St, opposite Aldi, around 10am on Monday following reports a man was trapped in a drain.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said crews worked quickly to free the man.

“The situation was under control at 10.14am within six minutes of crews arriving.”

FRV confirmed another man had also fallen down the collapsed drain, but was freed prior to the arrival of emergency services.

An Ambulance Victoria person said paramedics treated two people in Belmont and they have both been taken to Geelong hospital.

Their condition is not yet known.

City of Greater Geelong’s director of city services, Guy Wilson-Browne, said officers believed the drain cover may have been dislodged by a car.

“Officers responded quickly and the drain cover has been replaced,” he said.
