A man has been charged after a horror three-vehicle collision in Meredith last year which claimed the life of a young woman.

Police allege a silver Holden Commodore ran into the back of a white Suzuki Ignis on the Midland Hwy about 6am on January 17 last year.

It’s alleged the Ignis then collided with a silver Toyota Hilux near the intersection of McLeod St.

The passenger in the Ignis, a 29-year-old Gisborne woman, died at the scene while the driver, a 32-year-old Gisborne man, was taken to Ballarat Hospital with minor upper body injuries.

The two occupants of the Hilux, a 34-year-old Barwon Heads man and a 34-year-old Lethbridge man, were not injured but were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The driver of a Commodore, a 24-year-old man from Bonshaw, near Ballarat, was taken to Geelong hospital with minor injuries.

He was interviewed by detectives from the Major Collisions Investigation Unit and has since been charged with culpable driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

He will front the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on October 28.
