A motorcyclist from Lorne has been left bloodied and an emu dead after a freak accident during a ride in a remote part of Australia.
Bill Fry struck the bird during a motorbike ride in outback New South Wales.
The Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club posted photos on social media of a nasty gash on Mr Fry’s brow, with blood strewn across his bike.
“Well-known member and courtesy bus volunteer driver Bill Fry was riding his motorbike in outback NSW recently when a mob of emus ran in front of him and he hit one with his face.
The unfortunate emu was killed instantly,” the post read.
“I’ve Googled this and it appears that Bill is the only person in the written history of the world to kill an emu with his face.
“I’m deciding whether to contact the Guinness Book of Records or contact the authorities and have him charged as an emu murderer.
“This is Bill’s blood on the bike not the emu’s.”
One commenter remarked it was “good to see” the volunteer bus driver with a smile on his face following the incident.
It’s been an big year for the Lorne club.
In January, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay made his way down to Lorne to try out a snag from vice commodore and “world champion sausage cook” Ric Addison.
“(Ramsay) had been in Melbourne on business and came down the coast for a drive, when he heard all the commotion at the club,” he said.
“When he came in he was inundated with people wanting photos and came over while I was just starting the barbecue.”
Mr Addison confirmed Ramsay didn’t try to intervene while the chief sausage chef got to work on the barbecue.
