Herne Hill family fear nightmare ordeal with neighbour is not over despite arrest

A Geelong family living in terror at the hands of a violent criminal neighbor fear their nightmare is not over despite his arrest following more sickening alleged abuse.

A Geelong family living in terror at the hands of a violent criminal neighbour fear their nightmare is not over despite his arrest for breaching an intervention order.

Herne Hill mum Melissa Brown (not her real name) has spoken of her “temporary relief” after the 40-year-old was taken into custody to front the Geelong Magistrates Court, allegedly

following a torrent of more abuse he hurled from next door.

She has tried in vain to have the alleged abuser evicted from his commission unit – run by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) – despite an almost two-year long struggle.

The man, who is well known to Geelong police, was charged with wilful damage on March 28 after he allegedly kicked through timber slats in their back fence while her three children were home.

He has also been convicted of similar incidents involving a different neighbour in 2022.

The Geelong Advertiser can reveal he was convicted by a judge in relation to assault, smashing their homes and unleashing his dogs on an elderly woman’s pet.

“It seems he has more rights than us,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter what we do or who we turn to, we can’t get him moved.

“Nothing is done, and we are so worried nothing will until it is too late.”

He is due to front the Geelong Magistrates Court on October 19 following the breach of the intervention order.

The DFFH has been contacted for comment but had not responded at the time of publishing.
