A Geelong woman who fractured another woman’s leg during a scuffle in front of Bloom Nightclub has avoided a conviction.

In the early hours of August 15 last year, local dog washer Codi Gardiner, 26, ran and jumped on a 21-year-old woman’s back, brought her to the ground and had to be pulled off by crowd control.

Gardiner, who is known to live around Newcomb, pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury, wilful damage and failing to answer bail in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

In footage shown to the court, the victim is seen hitting Gardiner’s then-boyfriend in front of Geelong’s Bloom Nightclub.

Gardiner then ran up and tackled the woman, leading to the victim being hospitalised with a fracture in her leg.

Just one month earlier, Gardiner was engaged in a verbal argument with the same ex-boyfriend in the North Geelong home they shared when she began damaging her own items and shoving him.

In an effort to stop her from hitting him, the victim pushed Gardiner outside and locked the door.

Gardiner then kicked at the door, causing $350 worth of damage.

Her defence lawyer said she was “apologetic” about the nightclub assault and it “certainly wasn’t her intention to cause anything in the nature of what the victim did sustain”.

On the damage to the door, her lawyer said it was “unfortunate”.

Prosecutor James French told the court while it was a violent offence, police were not seeking a conviction.

“We’ve all seen the violence through the court system and through the papers … this could have been a lot worse,” Mr French said.

Magistrate Simon Guthrie said the offending was “just another example … of early morning hours outside of a nightclub, in the queue, where violence takes place”.

“It’s not your role to be a vigilante (and) it’s not your business to think you’re doing the right thing,” Mr Guthrie told Gardiner.

“It makes you no better than the other person.

“There’s simply no place for that.”

Gardiner was placed on an adjourned undertaking without conviction for 12 months, meaning she could be resentenced if caught offending during that period.

Mr Guthrie also made it a condition of the undertaking that Gardiner complete an anger management course.
