Geelong High School forced into lockdown after student altercation

A Geelong high school was forced into lockdown this afternoon after an incident involving at least two students.

Staff and students at the Geelong High School were forced into a lock down situation this afternoon after a frightening ordeal that required police attendance.

A Department of Education spokesman confirmed the incident to the Geelong Advertiser on Friday.

The school is currently providing assistance and support to the students involved in the schoolyard altercation, believed to have occurred around 12.30pm.

“Geelong High School followed established procedures and implemented its student safety procedures as a precaution at about 1pm for a short period this afternoon,” the spokesman said.

“This followed an incident involving a student that occurred in the school grounds.”

It’s believed no staff or students were injured.

Despite a brief delay, normal classes resumed for the remainder of the school day.

Geelong High principal, David Reid, said the safety of the students was their first priorty.

Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
