After making waves last off-season, Geelong Amateur have secured another big signing for 2025.

Geelong Amateur has landed another big name signing, securing former Richmond and Western Bulldogs player Sam Lloyd as its new playing co-coach.

The Ammos were on the hunt for a new co-coach to support Riley Kershaw after the club decided it needed a new voice after a disappointing finish to the 2024 season.

The talent-stacked Geelong Amateur, who recruited star midfielders Tom Gribble and Blake Sutterby last off-season, upset Torquay earlier in the year but three consecutive losses to end the season saw them scrape into fourth and then lose their first final to Modewarre.

A link to the club through former players Hamish Shepherd and Ben Bucovaz helped bring Lloyd to the Ammos.

Lloyd played 89 games from 2014-2020 for Richmond and the Western Bulldogs after being picked up as a mature-age recruit by the Tigers.

played three games for GDFNL club Anakie this year and 15 for the Deniliquin Rams in the Murray league, where he kicked 33 goals.

The 34-year-old said he is now ready to step into a coaching role.

“The time was right to step into a senior coaching role after many years as a player and in support coaching roles,” Lloyd said.

President Simon Farrell thanked Holroyd for his time and is eager to welcome Sam to the club.

“The club is looking forward to the Sam and Riley continuing to develop our young players, maintaining the excellent culture within the club and leading the whole club as we continue to strive for success at the senior level,” he said.
