Geelong Advertiser People’s Choice vote rankings revealed, Frankie wins the top spot

Geelong residents have had their say, and the People’s Choice for the best restaurant in the region has been decided. Find out which one got the top spot.

Geelong residents have spoken: Malop St establishment Frankie Bar and Eatery has been voted the People’s Choice winner for best restaurant in the region.

The Geelong Advertiser compiled a list of the 100 best restaurants in the region.

Subscribers were then called on to have their say on as to whether they agreed with the list, with a People’s Choice rankings collated.

Frankie Bar and Restaurant, set within a renovated bank building, offers Pan-Asian fusion cuisine.

Owner Ross Blackam said it felt “absolutely incredible” for his restaurant to be chosen as the People’s favourite.

The restaurant was ranked number 88 by the Addy, but pulled in an enormous percentage of the people’s vote to climb its way to the top.

Mr Blackam said he and his entire 20-strong team were “chuffed” by the news.

“We’re genuinely humbled, and blown away,” he said.

“It was great to be included in the top 100 by the Addy to start, but to get to number one by the People’s Choice is just mind blowing.”

Mr Blackam said he was proud of his front of house and kitchen staff who he said were deserving of all the praise.

He said Frankie set itself apart from competition with its ethos of inviting diners in to get their hands dirty with delicious food, and enjoy great cocktails while being served by “fantastic” staff.

Bringing a slice of France to central Geelong, La Cachette Bistrot, came in at number two in the People’s Choice rankings.

Closing out the top three of reader’s picks was ALMA, which brings a splash of South America to Ryrie St.

Bannockburn’s Clyde Park took fourth place, while Belmont bakery That Place was ranked at number five.

American style barbecue restaurant, Geelong Smoked Brisket, was voted sixth best, with Wildfire Craft BBQ and its taste of Texas in Geelong placed seventh.

Funk by Botanical Brew in Geelong West, Winter’s in Newtown, and Staple Eatery & Deli in Portarlington rounded up the top ten People’s Choice list.
