A Bellbrae man, banned from possessing a gun, used a firearm in a bid to prevent police arresting him last week, on the same day he took a woman captive, court documents allege.

Felix Martin Caddaye-Rose, 24, faced the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with 25 offences following an alleged crime spree on July 28.

Court documents obtained by the Geelong Advertiser allege Mr Caddaye-Rose robbed a person of their car keys while he had a gun and a machete, and later stole two cars and a scooter.

He is charged with two counts of unlawful assault on the same day, July 28, where it is alleged a gun and machete were involved.

Mr Caddaye-Rose is facing four counts of assaulting an emergency worker, two counts of making a threat to kill, two counts of making a threat to inflict serious injury and possessing a taser stemming from incidents on July 28.

It is alleged Mr Caddaye-Rose was behind the wheel on July 28 when he refused to stop on police direction, and when he drove while disqualified on Siefferts Road, Bellbrae.

Mr Caddaye-Rose was arrested on July 28 after specialist police, including the Critical Incident Response Team, and the police helicopter were called to Bellbrae.

The Geelong Advertiser applied for a summary of Mr Caddaye-Rose’s alleged offending but it was not granted by the court.

Prior to Mr Caddaye-Rose’s court appearance, police told the Geelong Advertiser a 24-year Bellbrae man fled from a Cunningham Drive property about 6:45pm on Friday when officers arrived.

The 24-year-old man was allegedly armed with a gun and a machete and in a spa bath when members of the Special Operations Group, a specialist police unit, swooped on him.

Mr Caddaye-Rose’s lawyer, Ryan Robertson, told the court on Monday his client may be withdrawing from an illicit substance, and asked for his client to be assessed by mental health professionals in light of the allegations before the court.

Mr Caddaye-Rose is also charged with possessing cannabis, possessing a weapon, assault, damaging a vehicle and retaining stolen goods.

He is due to reappear in court on October 24.
