A local drug dealer is back behind bars after was busted with ice and a large amount of cash.

A known drug dealer busted with large amounts of ice and more than $12,000 in cash has been jailed.

Jamaal Lewis, 21, appeared at the Geelong Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday and was sentenced to three months behind bars for trafficking a drug of dependence.

The former Charlemont man also pleaded guilty to possessing a drug of dependence and dealing with proceeds of crime.

The court heard Lewis was caught with 22 grams of methamphetamine and $12,560 in cash in August.

His lawyer, Nick Marcevski, told the magistrate Lewis was trafficking ice to fund his personal drug habit.

Magistrate John Bentley said the quantity of drugs and cash “would suggest trafficking” more than personal use.

“(The cash) is a little bit more significant than to support your habit,” Mr Bentley said.

“You would have to be smoking a lot of the stuff to acquire $12,000 worth of sales.”

Mr Marcevski said Lewis had since “made genuine attempts in terms of rehabilitation” to “stay off the drugs”.

The court heard Lewis was jailed for five months last year for drug trafficking after he was caught with 8.94 grams of ice, mobile phones, a set of scales and more than $3000 in cash.

The prosecution argued Lewis should be jailed again.

Mr Bentley ordered Lewis serve a “lesser sentence” due to his age, but warned he should expect random drug testing.

“If you’re going to continue to sell drugs, you’re going to get much bigger sentences,” Mr Bentley said.
