A man has been charged over a string of aggravated burglaries and car thefts during a three-week crime spree that ended after a police chase through Geelong last week.

Detectives from the Western Region Crime Squad arrested a 27-year-old Bowenvale man on Monday in relation to a spate of serious offences across the state, including Geelong, Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh and Werribee.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the investigation “came to a head” last Thursday when officers found an allegedly stolen Nissan Navara driving between Geelong and Werribee.

The man was tracked by a police helicopter before the car stopped at a Werribee property, where they made the arrest and recovered the stolen vehicle.

“Police also allege that the man stole a Toyota HiLux from Mount Wallace and a Nissan Patrol from Bacchus Marsh,” he said.

“The Toyota Hilux was recovered by police while the Nissan Patrol remains outstanding.”

A search of Tarneit address also found three stolen vehicles and two box trailers.

The man was charged with 25 offences, including aggravated burglary, burglaries, theft of motor vehicles, theft and conduct endangering persons.

He has been remanded in custody and will front Geelong Magistrates Court on August 7.

It comes after four people were arrested in a quiet Grovedale street on Monday after allegedly leading police on a dramatic pursuit across Geelong.

Officers first spotted the allegedly stolen blue Ford Ranger driving erratically through Geelong West and Bell Park about 9:30am.

A police chopper then followed the vehicle to Enrob Crt in Grovedale, where it was dumped in front of residential homes.

Four people are in custody.
