It’s believed the final steps of a loving father’s life are being traced through CCTV after he was potentially slain near the Geelong CBD.

Mystery surrounds the circumstances that led to the death of Paul Grapsas, 40, after he left his Western Beach Road property to walk his dog on Thursday night.

He never returned, allegedly found by his pregnant wife bludgeoned to death the following morning.

Homicide detectives are remaining tight-lipped on the investigation, but security footage has been a key focus of the probe.

Several nearby businesses and residents have confirmed to the Geelong Advertiser that video evidence has been sought in an effort to identify his potential killer, or the events that led to his shocking demise.

Concerns are growing about the brazen nature of the alleged attack.

Mercer Street resident Poobalen Rangisetti, 40, said he and his wife had been left “very worried” that a potential offender remained at large.

“With the police station being pretty close we always just assumed it’s a safe area,” he said.

“This type of thing makes us all feel like it’s actually not safe, and we all have that mindset now.”

He has lived at his apartment near where the man’s body was found for the past two years.

Mr Grapsas, a father-of-two who was expecting his third child, was found dead with head injuries on Malone St near his Western Beach Rd house.

“It’s a bit concerning that no one has been arrested, but we will just be careful,” he said.

“We are way more alert and will not go out late at night, that’s the only thing we can do.”

A spokesman from Wood Oven Pizza, on Mercer Street, said they were still in the dark about what had happened.

“We have CCTV but we really don’t know too much about it,” he said

“We are more than happy to assist police.”

Staff at Texas Hamburger said plain clothed detectives had asked them for their security footage on Friday, along with several others along the street.

It comes as users of social news site, Reddit, claimed the man was beaten “with a golf club”.

Homicide Squad Detective Sergeant Tony Hupfeld said police were treating the man’s death as suspicious and was calling for witnesses.
