A Geelong woman who allegedly threatened to punch another woman and burn her house down has been granted bail.

After being told to “get the f**k out”, Geelong West woman Alisha Haintz, 38, allegedly told an older woman she would assault her and “come back and burn the house down” if she was forced to leave.

Ms Haintz appeared at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday after being picked up by police and taken into remand for a number of alleged shop thefts at Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre.

On the new charges, Ms Haintz was allegedly spotted at the shopping complex with a trolley full of items, including a bag from Strandbags, clothes from Kmart and perishables from Coles.

The court heard Ms Haintz allegedly stole $767 worth of items.

Her lawyer, Simon Northeast, told the court Ms Haintz had recently stopped taking medication for her mental health and had “started to self-medicate” instead, but did not say with what substance.

Mr Northeast asked the court to bail Ms Haintz because she “needs to re-engage with mental health” and she was “very keen to get back to her gardening” at her Department of Housing issued property.

Magistrate Peter Mellas said it sounded like the alleged offending was helping fund Ms Haintz’s “self-medication” issue.

He said it was important for Ms Haintz to engage with mental health services, adding it had been months since the last appointment.

“This is someone who refuses to follow through on treatment … and she is the one person in the room who knows that if she doesn’t do that, things are going to fall apart pretty quickly,” Mr Mellas said.

“None of this behaviour smacks of any kind of disordered thought (issues). She’s gone from shop to shop to shop.”

Although prosecution argued Ms Haintz has “demonstrated...that she has a lack of regard for court orders”, Mr Mellas said her alleged offending was “not on the highest end of the scale”.

Ms Haintz was bailed to appear before the court at a later date.
