Werribee Centrals coach Rhyce Prismall believes his new recruit’s stunning first game for the club was a main reason the Centurions were able to record their first win of the season.

Werribee Centrals coach Rhyce Prismall believes his new recruit’s stunning first game for the club was a main reason the Centurions were able to record their first win of the season.

The Centurions overran North Geelong off the back of Josh MacDonald’s four goals, running out 12.9 (81) to 8.11 (59) winners in wet and wintry conditions.

MacDonald played for Glen Orden, a team in the Western Regions Football League that was one of many casualties this off-season, withdrawing a senior team from competition in February.

Prismall said MacDonald was a classy player that would add a lot to the Centurions’ list.

“Josh came from Glen Orden who pulled the pin on the season a couple of weeks back and I used to play against him at Altona and played at a rep team there,” he said.

“When they folded for the year I was pretty keen to hit him up and get him across, so it was his first game today and he kicked four goals as a medium forward.

“He was really classy in the wet in the conditions and was really impressive, he’s got a really damaging left foot with really good hands and can cause some really difficult match ups.”

Werribee Centrals will be without Josh Sutton, who suffered a concussion in the clash and will miss round 3’s game against Bell Post Hill.

North Geelong coach Michael Boothey said Sutton had been one of the Centurions’ best players before the injury.

“We had a really difficult time trying to deal with him, they had to shuffle a few things around once he went off,” he said.

“When he went off late in the second quarter that changed a few things for them, the game was really strange throughout because each quarter seemed to be split down the middle for the momentum swings.

“We had a few guys get corkies and things like that, no major injuries coming out of the game from our side of things, when the game is wet and everyone’s slipping around a bit that can tend to happen.

“We didn’t really play the wet footy as well as them, they were just a little bit cleaner around the contest and it cost us.”
