A GOLD Coast bakery chain is pulling out all the stops to win the title of official pie of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Goldsteins Bakery is plating up two possible pie options in the lead-up to the Games and the retail group’s director Martin Goldstein said he was sure they were on to a winner.

“We are thinking the choice will be between the chunky steak pie marinated in red wine or the chilli chicken and mango pie,” he said.

“At the moment, the chilli chicken pie isn’t on the menu but it had a very strong ­following here on the Coast and it would be suited as the official pie of the Games ­because the mango could represent the sunny beaches.”

Many Goldstein stores across the Gold Coast will undergo refurbishments before the Games and the Southport store is one of the first to sport the new look.

“A new store opened at Robina not long ago and we have one more planned for later this year,” he said.

“We would like to have at least half a dozen stores with the new branding opened by the end of next year.”

Mr Goldstein said the growth and expansion of the business was, in part, because of the Games.

“There has been an air of confidence around the Coast leading up to the Games,” he said. “This seems to be causing a lot of activity in development in real estate, both residential and commercial.

“It is the perfect time to be expanding the business.”
