Now, video has emerged showing two teenagers – one still wearing a school bag and tie – running down the street in broad daylight armed with large knives.

Police say two other boys, both 16, were injured during the altercation, with one treated at the scene and the other taken to hospital.

On Friday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested in relation to the investigation, however Victoria Police have revealed he was released without charge the following morning.

Another 18-year-old male from Burnside was also interviewed by police but released without charge, with further investigations underway.

Local leaders have told 9 News they want a weapons amnesty as a result of the death, which occurred amid a spike in children carrying knives.

Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said investigators believe the incident involved two groups from two different schools.

“They are schoolchildren around the 15 or 16-year-old mark and they know each other,” she said.

“They’ve met down near the Sunshine bus station and that’s where an altercation has taken place.”
