THE $1.4 billion Jewel towers development in Surfers Paradise has won a top state award – and it hasn’t even opened yet.
The long-running marquee project on Old Burleigh Road claimed three gongs at the Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards.
A handful of other Gold Coast projects, including Trinity Lutheran College’s new senior learning precinct, were also recognised.
At Jewel, contractors Landscape Solutions (Queensland) won the $2.5 million-plus commercial category, best landscape feature for the unique cabanas, and best commercial maintenance contract over $100,000 for its work on the luxury beachfront development.
The palatial outdoor space included 600sq m of stone tiling, 500sq m of timber decking around the beachfront pool.
As part of the build, 1800 cubic metres of soil and 80 full-grown palms had to be craned on to the high-rise site.

Landscape Queensland CEO Mark Sorby said despite the challenges of 2020, this year’s industry awards program again showcased the high skill level and professionalism of the landscape industry.
“Industry trends are continually changing to meet consumer demands,” he said.
“Landscapers are undertaking an exciting and diverse range of projects which is reflected in some of this year’s awards entries submitted from throughout the state.”
