Eurovision superstar Dami Im ‘pumped’ ahead of Women’s State of Origin decider in Townsville

The Aussie singer-songwriter has revealed her special connection with North Queensland during one of it’s darkest hours and why she jumped at the opportunity to perform at the historic Women’s State of Origin decider match.

An Australian singer-songwriter with many reasons to jump at the chance to open the Women’s State of Origin Decider in Townsville, has revealed one of her reasons is the touching connection she shares with the North.

Eurovision performer Dami Im will take to the Queensland Country Bank Stadium stage to start hyping the crowd, which she said has never been an issue with Townsville audiences.

“Every town that I’ve performed in has had a different feel but Townsville audiences are always super enthusiastic and really appreciative of the performances and the music,” she said.

In 2019 the X-Factor winner headlined the ‘Together for North Queensland’ concert that was held following the Cowboys season-opener and was dedicated to raising the spirits in the region after the historic floods.

“That was a very special and emotional time for the community,” she said.

“It was really meaningful for me to be there and cheer everyone on.”

Now she will take to the Townsville stage in order to be a part of sporting history.

“It’s the first time the Women’s State of Origin is doing a third game and it’s a decider, it’s super exciting to be involved in that,” the singer said.

“Women’s sport is getting so much more attention now, people really appreciate the games and how good female sports players are and as it should be.

“It’s really cool as a fellow Queenslander and female artist I get to be there and witness it.”

The artist shared that footy fans can expect to hear some of her more up-beat songs to get everyone in the spirit to kick off all the action.

“I’ll be singing the national anthem of course, and also be singing my own songs – the more powerful big numbers to get the excitement going and match energy of everybody,” she said.
