Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a house fire in Brisbane’s South on Thursday afternoon.
Crews arrived at a residential single-story property on Ness Road in Salisbury just before 3pm following reports of a structure fire.
A neighbour said she first smelled smoke before coming out of her house to see flames engulfing the property down the street and then called 000. The woman said she could hear a man yelling. “It was really scary,” the woman told the Courier Mail.
The woman also said she heard multiple explosions and was worried it could have spread to nearby properties.
She said the fire was “vast” and “ferocious”.
Another neighbour said they heard what sounded like gas bottles exploding from inside the property. The woman described the intensity of the blaze as “really incredible”.
The property is believed to be a rental. Diversions are in place, and residents have been advised to avoid the area.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said it is believed no one had been inside the house at the time.
Fire investigators are expected to return to the property on Friday to start investigating the cause of the blaze.
