High school students frightened after alleged attack from gang of teens

Two teenagers have been charged over an alleged assault on a group of high school students left battered and bruised, one lost a tooth and another suffering a black eye and bruised ribs.

Two teenagers have been charged after allegedly assaulting a group of students at a train station in Dakabin.

The two teenagers were allegedly part of a group of attackers that left four students battered and bruised, one losing a tooth and another suffering a black eye and bruised ribs.

The group of students have been left frightened to use public transport after they were allegedly attacked by more than 10 teens in a “disgusting” and unprovoked beating.

The alleged attack unfolded at the Dakabin Train Station when four high school students were on their way home from school on May 5.

The three 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old are believed to have been approached by 12 teens at the station, where they were allegedly attacked verbally with insults and explicit language before things turned physical.

Two of the victims were left with bruised ribs, cuts, and black eyes, while another was allegedly kneed in the stomach, and had their head smashed into glass.

Another was allegedly punched in the face and lost her tooth.

A Queensland Department of Education spokesman released a statement regarding the incident.

“The School is aware of a number of alleged incidents after school and outside school grounds at the Dakabin train station yesterday afternoon (May 5),” the spokesman said.

The spokesman also stated they are supporting two of the four students involved.

“Support is being provided to two affected students,” he said.

“Police are investigating.”

The mother of one of the students, who was attacked, said she found her daughter had walked by herself from the train station to work distraught after the incident.

“I asked her what she needed the ice for and she turned around and the side of her face was red and puffy and her chest, it was just red,” she said.

“She was on the verge of tears.”

One of the teens involved were known to the victims, allegedly assaulting them in front of other schoolchildren, who were as young as 11-years-old.

“There were witnesses there from what I heard, little kids watched,” the mum of one of the victims said.

“I can’t even imagine what was going through their heads at that point.”

“I am a firm believer of, everybody is free to make choices, but not everybody is free from the consequences of those choices.

“That’s not the way the world works, you don’t just go around bashing people.”

The mother said her daughter and other students were frightened to use public transport again and was worried about the impact the incident would have on the young students’ mental health.

“She was so hesitant this morning to get on the train this morning to go to school,” she said.

“She messaged me and she said to me mum I don’t want to catch the train home.

“I just worry that this will have a lasting effect” she said.

“I would love to see teachers out there, or security guards or someone there, it’s an unmanned station and they are free to do whatever they want.”

She said she hoped the support of her friends and family would be enough to help her through this tough time.

Police have since charged the two teenagers, who will face Pine Rivers Magistrate Court next week.

The 15-year-old Wamuran girl will face one charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The 14-year-old boy from Lawnton will face three charges including assault occasioning bodily harm in company, armed robbery and stealing.

Investigations are continuing into the attack.
