A BILINGA woman has suffered burns to her back after her clothing caught fire in a disturbing incident overnight.

The woman’s clothes were set alight by a candle inside the home.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics were called to the Bilinga home at 11.16pm yesterday.

The woman aged in her 20s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Her injuries were not life-threatening, said a spokeswoman for QAS.

The fire was contained to the woman’s clothing and did not damage the property.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) have issued a warning about the use of candles, tealights and oil burners.

The spokeswoman said the homewares have become more popular in recent times, but can pose a serious fire hazard.
